Singur crisis is more than just acquisition of some farm land. Its fight between those who see change as opportunity and another who see threat to their livelihood. Lands of farmers is source of livelihood year on year and even over generations. Most of the farmers don't posses the skill to take advantages of opportunities created out of industrialization. Most supporters of industrialization are people who see potential opportunity for themselves.
There is definitely another angle though of emotional attachment with land, establishing himself in new place. All these are painful. These emotions add the fuel to fear that they might not be able to maintain their current lifestyle without learning new skill.
I think owner of land should not just get compensation but also share in the institution being created on their land. This can help them still feeling about sense of ownership, belongingness.
